SINGAPORE – Home-grown singer JJ Lin has collaborated with Hong Kong movie superstar Jackie Chan for the first time on the song Skibidi.
The preview of the single was released on Aug 27 at 10am on several radio stations, such as Singapore’s UFM100.3, Malaysia’s MY FM and Taiwan’s Hit FM. The song is slated to drop on Aug 29 at midnight.
“Let’s drop the beat,” Lin wrote in English on social media on Aug 28. “A dream come true – my lifelong hero @jackiechan and I join forces on our new track Skibidi.”
The 44-year-old added in Chinese: “Skibidi captures the professional convictions that (we) have always exemplified – never compromising and always giving it our all. Both of our gongfu, honed over time, reflects our unwavering spirit even when the road is bumpy and full of potholes.”
“Skibidi” was among the 6,000 words added to the Cambridge Dictionary in the last 12 months.
The slang term has different meanings, such as “cool” or “bad”, or can be used with no real meaning as a joke, according to the dictionary. The gibberish word was coined by the creator of a viral animated video series, Skibidi Toilet, on YouTube.
Skibidi is Chan’s first foray into electronic music. The 71-year-old star previously recorded songs for his movies such as Drunken Master II (1994), Rumble In The Bronx (1995) and The Myth (2005). He has released studio albums such as Jackie Chan (1986), First Time (1992) and Dragon’s Heart (1996).
He was most recently seen on the big screen in Hollywood martial arts film Karate Kid: Legends (2025) and Chinese crime thriller The Shadow’s Edge (2025).
Skibidi’s release comes four months after Lin and Chan performed the classic song Sincere Hero (1993) together at a show in Wuhan, China, in April.
It was written by Taiwanese singer-songwriter Jonathan Lee and was originally performed by Chan, Lee, Taiwan-based singer Wakin Chau and Hong Kong singer Anthony Wong.
“Truly honoured to be invited by my lifelong hero to perform together at the 2025 Beloong Music Festival in Wuhan,” Lin wrote on social media then. “Sharing the stage with you is a dream come true – let the music transcend all boundaries.”
He added in the postscript: “Looking forward to our new song together.”
