NEW YORK – An album, a new song and a health issue – Halsey took to social media on June 4 to announce them all.

In an Instagram post featuring a series of videos that appear to document the American singer-songwriter receiving infusions, the 29-year-old wrote: “Long story short, I’m lucky to be alive. Short story long, I wrote an album. It begins with The End. Out now.”

In another post on June 5, it was revealed that Halsey is suffering from lupus and a rare T-cell disorder.

“I realise everyone is catching up with news I’ve held in for a very long time, and I wasn’t sure how much I wanted to share. You’ve all been so kind, so I want to share a bit more,” Halsey wrote.

“In 2022, I was diagnosed with Lupus SLE and then, a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder. Both of which are currently being managed or in remission; and both of which I will likely have for the duration of my life.”

The Grammy-nominated artiste added: “After a rocky start, I slowly got everything under control with the help of amazing doctors.”

According to the Lupus Foundation of America, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) can cause inflammation of multiple organs or organ systems in the body, either acutely or chronically.

Lymphoproliferative disorders are a group of diseases that cause an uncontrolled production of lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell, according to Medical News Today.

Halsey – who has a three-year-old son with former boyfriend, Turkish-American screenwriter Alev Aydin – added: “After two years, I’m feeling better, and I’m more grateful than ever to have music to turn to. I can’t wait to get back where I belong: with you all, singing and screaming my heart out.”

Born Ashley Frangipane, the pop performer has been open about health problems in the past.

In 2022, Halsey was revealed to be suffering from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Sjogren’s syndrome and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, known as Pots, where one’s heart rate increases very quickly after getting up from sitting or lying down.

Mayo Clinic defines Ehlers-Danlos syndrome as a group of inherited disorders that affect the connective tissues, primarily skin, joints and blood vessel walls; while Sjogren’s syndrome is a disorder of the immune system identified by its two most common symptoms – dry eyes and a dry mouth.

Halsey has also been open about battling endometriosis, a chronic condition that affects 10 per cent of women and girls, according to the World Health Organisation.

Halsey’s new song, The End, is the first peek at the star’s fifth album, a follow-up to 2021’s If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, which was produced by American rock band Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. NYTIMES
