KUALA LUMPUR – Singaporean actor Aliff Aziz is putting his career temporarily on hold to focus on his mental health following

his divorce from Malaysian singer-actress Bella Astillah on June 13.

Speaking to reporters outside the Federal Territories Syariah Lower Court in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur, Aliff said he wanted to take time to reflect on himself.

“I’m in a phase where I need to rest for a while to take care of my mental health. Today has been a very hectic day for me. Regarding ‘rezeki’ (blessings), I believe everything is in the hands of Allah. I’m now working towards self-reflection,” added the 33-year-old.

Aliff and Bella, who married in 2016, divorced for a second time when he pronounced the talak (the Muslim pronouncement of divorce) before Syariah Judge Wan Mohd Najib Wan Hamat on the afternoon of June 13.

The pair had previously divorced on May 16, 2019, but reconciled during the iddah, which is a waiting period mandated by Islam.

When asked about his current relationship with 30-year-old Bella, whose real name is Dayang Ara Nabellah Awang Astillah, Aliff said it was not a good time to discuss such matters. “I ask everyone to give space and time,” he added.

On March 9, Aliff and Malaysian actress Ruhainies were detained by officers from Malaysia’s Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department at a condominium in Kuala Lumpur

for suspected khalwat (close proximity).

Bella filed for divorce days later.

In the proceedings on June 13, Aliff agreed to give full custody of their two children – a son, seven; and a daughter, four – to Bella and not file any disobedience claims against her.

“Bella is the biological mother of our kids and we will try to be good for them. I won’t say in detail what was discussed in court, but that’s the decision,” he told mStar, The Star’s Malay-language news portal.

Aliff also asked everyone to pray for the swift resolution of his alleged khalwat case with 31-year-old Ruhainies. “Insha-Allah, please pray for the best and hopefully the case will be resolved. I have already cooperated with (the authorities). We will leave it to them for further action,” he said.

Earlier in April, Bella accused Aliff of cheating on her 11 times, including with her younger sister.

Things got heated up when Sarah Yasmine, a woman claiming to be Aliff’s girlfriend since January, exposed screenshots of messages between him and someone called NRF, whom she alleged to be Ruhainies.

Aliff admitted to cheating on Bella in a podcast in May,

saying he did so as his “soul felt empty”.
