SEOUL – K-pop boy band Seventeen’s Chinese member Jun is set to make his mark on the big screen, starring in the upcoming Chinese film The Shadow’s Edge alongside Hong Kong actors Jackie Chan and Tony Leung Ka Fai.
According to Jun’s agency Pledis Entertainment, the 28-year-old star, whose real name is Wen Junhui, will play gang member Hu Feng in the crime thriller slated for release later in 2025.
The movie is about the police trying to take down a notorious criminal organisation. Action star Chan will portray a veteran detective, while Leung takes on the role of Hu Feng’s adoptive father, the primary antagonist. The movie is directed by Chinese film-maker Larry Yang.
Before debuting as a member of Seventeen in 2015, Jun – who was born in Shenzhen, Guangdong – began his career as a child actor in China, starring in TV series and films.
His performance in the 2007 film The Pye-Dog, alongside Hong Kong singer Eason Chan, clinched him the Silver award for Best New Actor at the Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild Awards. Thanks to the movie, where he played a traumatised child with learning difficulties, he was the first Chinese child actor nominated for Best New Performer at the Hong Kong Film Awards in 2008.
He also played a young Ip Man in Hong Kong movie The Legend Is Born: Ip Man (2010), about the famed martial arts practitioner.
Most recently, Jun won the Rising Star of the Year honour at the Asia Contents Awards & Global OTT Awards, held during the 2023 Busan International Film Festival, for his role in the Chinese youth romance series Exclusive Fairy Tale (2023).
Seventeen are in the midst of their fourth world tour titled Right Here, which will stop by Singapore’s National Stadium on Jan 25 and 26. Jun is not part of the tour due to his acting commitments in China. THE KOREA HERALD/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
