Taiwanese singer Ella Chen will embark on her first solo concert tour, It’s Me/Ella’s Idea, since debuting with the girl group S.H.E. on Sept 11, 2001.
The 44-year-old made the announcement via social media on Sept 10, as she invited her bandmates – Hebe Tien and Selina Jen – to provide input on her tour.
Chen released a video on Facebook on the same day, in which she appeared with Tien, 42, and Jen, 43.
Chen said the tour is not an extension of her previous three-date The Ella Show – held in Taipei in November 2020 and Kaohsiung in August 2022 – but the culmination of years of fan anticipation.
“Over the past two years, I’ve performed in various shows, and many fans expressed the hope that I could hold a solo concert,” she said in the video.
“I feel that holding my own concert tour will fulfil a promise and mark a significant milestone in my career.”
Tien, who has held three solo concert tours, advised Chen to relax during the shows. She disclosed that Chen used to be very nervous and concerned about her performance before the start of a show when S.H.E performed together.
“I want you to savour this significant milestone in your life,” Tien said. “This concert is simply about letting your natural charm shine through.”
Jen then revealed an embarrassing fact about Chen – that her cheek muscles twitch when she is nervous.
“I hope you won’t do that on stage,” Jen said. “As we were usually right next to each other, I thought it looked funny.”
Chen extended an invitation to her bandmates, saying: “Will you come when I charter a plane to take you and your whole family to the concert?”
Tien quipped that it would depend on the model of the plane.
Chen has so far kept the dates and list of cities for her tour under wraps.
On Sept 11, she marked the 24th anniversary of S.H.E’s debut with a photo of herself with the caption: “24th, 2gether 4ever. Happy birthday to us.”
