Singer Tony Sun of boy band 5566 dropped a bombshell on March 3 when he announced his marriage to singer Ariel Sha.
Sun, 47, was linked to Sha, 36, in 2019, but the two Taiwanese entertainers had referred to each other only as “good friends”, even though they attended events together.
“From today onwards, Ariel and Tony are no longer just good friends,” the couple wrote in Chinese on social media on March 3, tagging each other in their respective posts.
“In the past, we had the romance of love and the comfort of friendship, but now, we have added the bond and responsibility of family.”
The couple wrote that they casually flipped through the calendar one day in 2025 and landed on the date March 3.
“This is a simple and lovely date, as if we were making two okay signs with our hands, symbolising that everything will be okay, no matter the difficulties we encounter, and regardless of whether it is a sunny or rainy day.”
Posting several photos of themselves with their pet dog Nini, the couple said they decided to register their marriage on March 3.
“Thanks to Nini, we have become more responsible and patient, and we have started to prioritise our family, treasuring every moment with each other even more,” the couple wrote.
The couple confirmed to Taiwanese media that Sha is not pregnant and they have no plans for a wedding banquet at the moment.
Sun, who rose to fame as the leader of 5566 in 2002, was married to Taiwanese actress Angel Han, 45, between 2011 and 2015.
Originally consisting of five members, 5566 are now a three-man group comprising Sun, Jason Hsu and Zax Wang.
Rio Peng, better known by his stage Xiaodao (Little Knife), left the group in 2003 due to the recurrence of an old injury, while Sam Wang is reportedly no longer in touch with the band.
Sun and Zax Wang are now focusing on TV hosting, while Hsu has ventured into acting.
