Who: Danny Loong, Singaporean chief executive and co-founder of Timbre Group, a local food and beverage, music and events company, which runs venues such as Timbre Signatures @ The Arts House and Yishun Park Hawker Centre.
On Nov 9 and 10, Timbre will hold Tributefest 2024 at Timbre+ One North, which features tribute acts that play hits of popular rock bands. These include British outfit Killer Queen and The Australian AC/DC Experience, as well as local acts such as Welcome To The Machine.
Loong, 52, is also a musician and was formerly band leader of Universal Blues Band, or Ublues. He lectures at SMU Academy for the advanced diploma in event management, entertainment and virtual production. He is also co-owner of restaurant and live music venue The Blackbird.
“I usually have breakfast at Eastpoint Mall, which is near my place, and it is always kaya toast, half-boiled eggs and iced teh O, less sweet. For coffee, I go to Dutch Colony Coffee Co in Siglap.
For lunch, I go to Tenderfresh Classic at Our Tampines Hub. I order the standard fried chicken meal and add the sambal, which has a nice kick.
I go to East Coast Lagoon Food Village for dinner and will order dishes such as gong gong, stingray, sambal kang kong, fried baby squid, oyster omelette and sometimes a range of satays. Drinks-wise, it has to be sugar cane juice.
I also like going to Tipo Pasta Bar in Aliwal Street for its pasta.
I go for jam sessions on weekends, such as the ones organised by Nineteen Eighty Studios in Joo Chiat Road. It is always good to hang out and jam with other musicians and support some of the featured bands as well.
I also like to check out live music venues such as The Inn Livehouse at Bugis+. It is extra special to me because one of the owners is Alfred Sim, who used to be a singer at Switch by Timbre X. Singer-bassist Nelson Tan, who performs at The Inn Livehouse, is also a former resident musician at Timbre.
I’d watch a live telecast of my beloved football team Liverpool if there is a weekend match. Otherwise, I’d watch YouTube videos on topics such as psychology and news, as well as listen to podcasts.”
