Who: Krysta Joy is an R&B/indie Singaporean singer-songwriter who made her name when she won the National Arts Council’s Noise Singapore Award in 2017. Together with fellow home-grown acts Yao and Xena Giam, the 25-year-old will do a series of gigs across Asia, titled Stations Tour, in late 2024 and early 2025. These will include concerts in Tokyo and Nagoya in Japan in November.

Before embarking on the tour, they will stage a concert in Singapore at Esplanade Annexe Studio on Oct 19.

The singer, whose full name is Krysta Joy D’Souza, is founder of creative space Saylah Studios and is a DJ at Indiego, a Mediacorp radio station that plays local and regional indie music. She released her latest single, Runaway, in June.

“My perfect weekend would start on Saturday with no alarm and the beloved chance to rise from my slumber naturally.

I’ll begin the same way I always do, walking around Serangoon with my best friend, a Singapore Special dog named Dip, as he sniffs everything in sight. Then we return home, panting from the heat of the late morning and ready for our first meal of the day with family.

Saturday afternoons are best spent with friends at Saylah Studios in Paya Lebar, with no agenda but to have fun together.

For dinner, we order our favourite Thai food from Rama IX Thai Kitchen at Grantral Mall down the street. I love the tom yum soup. After that, we make our way to the Esplanade to enjoy a local gig.

Connecting over social media is great, but nothing beats making friends and bonding over the musical performance you have just experienced together.

With my friends, we head to the nearest prata shop in the vicinity and further bond over teh ais (iced tea) until someone lets out the first yawn – the signal for ‘it’s time we all go home’.

I hop on my Vespa and so does one other fortunate person who lives close enough for me to drop home along the way.

After a good night’s rest, Sunday mornings require an alarm, but I’m glad when it goes off as it means I can spend time with my community at Life Church, also at Grantral Mall.

I return home to begin my Sunday Reset routine, which is basically me cleaning what I should have every other day of the week instead of procrastinating.

Once my room is clean, so is my headspace, and I’m ready to set some goals for the week ahead.

I then enjoy watching Suits (2011 to 2019) on Netflix, before having a family dinner with dishes cooked by my father, who learnt them from a random British guy on YouTube.

I then wrap up the weekend by picking my younger sister up from work and tuning in to my Indiego segment on radio station 987FM that was pre-recorded earlier in the week.

While everyone is sound asleep, I hop onto my usual TikTok Live and spend some time with whoever decides to spend it with me before we start a brand-new week.”
