Who: Radio deejay, television host, entrepreneur and model Angelique Teo, 50.
Better known as Angel, she hosts radio station Kiss92’s revamped morning programme, The Big Show, with Glenn Ong. It goes on air on weekdays from 6 to 10am.
The pair take on topics such as sustainability, travel, technology, wellness and entertainment, and oversee a daily segment called The Big Show TV, where viewers get to interact with the show’s guests.
The show previously included The Flying Dutchman, who moved to sister station One FM 91.3 to co-host the morning show with Lavinia Tan.
Teo, winner of the first The New Paper New Face modelling competition in 1993, is also the co-founder and creative director of plant-based beverage company MAD Foods. She is married to MAD Foods’ chief executive and co-founder Bobby Randhawa, 47.
“With my 4am wake-up calls during the week, my weekends are all about finding the perfect balance between relaxation, fun and preparation.
My husband and I love to travel, and we are away on a tropical island most weekends. Our picks for a quick 48-hour getaway are neighbouring countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia.
If you do find us in Singapore for the weekend, then my perfect Saturday begins with sleeping in – a luxury I don’t get during the week.
Saturdays are typically dedicated to being a homebody. I spend time with my husband and our almost-two-year-old golden retriever Tofu, who has his own Instagram page, @worldoftofu. We take lots of walks, which helps me stay active as well. I use these walks as moments of focus and meditation, and a chance to clear my mind and catch up with my partner.
I’m 100 per cent plant-based at home and vegetarian when out. So, when at home, I love experimenting in the kitchen. There’s something therapeutic about creating dishes from scratch. I’ve perfected a fishless ‘tuna’ and meatless dumplings, and I love making snacks and biscuits for Tofu.
I am working on making my own vegan, sugar- and oil-free granola, as well as a no-nasties protein powder.
When my husband and I are not enjoying a homemade meal and some downtime, you’ll find us at our favourite haunts at Marina Bay Sands – Spago for a special date night or Koma when we are craving Japanese.
My Sundays take on a different rhythm from those of most people – they’re my power-planning days. Not many like tackling their inbox, but I find it energising to get a head start on the week ahead. I’ll be on my couch, clearing e-mails and preparing for the upcoming week’s morning shows.
It is this balance of leisure and preparation that helps me stay on top of both my radio career and life. I also use the time to create content for my channels, mainly YouTube and Instagram, where I have content on technology, travel and lifestyle.
Once all the work is done, I will bury my head in a book. I’m currently reading Maya Angelou’s I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings.”
