Who: Veteran comedian Kumar, 56, is known in the entertainment scene for his bold humour and social commentary, with a career spanning more than 30 years. He has headlined numerous hit shows, including Kumar Unmasked (2021), Kumar Locks Down (2022), Kumar Guilty (2023) and Kumar Uncut (2024), cementing his place as one of Singapore’s beloved entertainers.

Now, he is gearing up for his latest comedy production, S.O.S (Save Our Singapore) Kumar, running at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands, from July 17 to Aug 3. For the first time, new comedians and drag queens will be featured in the show.

A perfect weekend for me is simple – no schedules, no rushing, just time to breathe. Since I work on weekdays, I save my weekends and try not to commit to shows or events. It is all about recharging for the week ahead.

Last year, I had one of my most memorable weekends when I first brought my puppy, Biscuit, home. That whole weekend was just about my poodle: watching him explore, seeing him slowly realise he was safe and that he belonged. It felt like our family had grown in the best possible way.

Saturdays are just for me. I wake up when I feel like it – with no alarm and no urgency. I make a good breakfast, maybe something indulgent, and just take my time. I sink into the couch and binge-watch a thriller or documentary.

I like getting lost in a good story. I also watch some Tamil movies that I missed, either on Netflix or Amazon Prime. I never watch comedy. I want something that pulls me in, makes me think and surprises me.

Mostly, Saturdays are about stillness and my quiet time – letting myself just be, maybe going for a walk and spending time with my four fur babies – Biscuit, Coffee, Latte and Cookie.

Sundays are different. If there is one thing that never changes, it is my Sunday market run and cooking for the family. That is my reset button, my little ritual and what makes my weekend feel complete. I love home-cooked food.

I also enjoy going to Sheng Siong. It is very therapeutic. It is amazing looking at the live fish and groceries. I can get lost in there.

I usually head to the market to pick up ingredients, walk through the stalls, choose the best fish and chat with the familiar faces. There is something grounding about that routine.

Then, I make my way home to cook. Fish curry is my go-to. The kitchen fills with the smell of spices, the sound of bubbling curry and the warmth of family coming together. However, if I am eating out, I prefer indulging in Malay food.

After lunch, I sit with my family, talk and laugh. Nothing fancy, nothing forced. Just time spent with the people who matter most.”
