“I imagine being gently woken up by my dad at 8.30am, like how it used to be. We’d head out as a family to our favourite breakfast spot, Ah Hua Kuey Teow, in Johor Bahru. It’s a place that’s been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.
I’m someone who finds comfort in routine. For 20 years, I’ve gone to the same place, eaten the same kway teow soup dish and have never grown tired of it. Maybe it’s because I grew up watching my parents do the same.
Ever since my dad died in 2020, that sense of routine has become even more precious. I now cherish every moment I get with my mum. Even when I feel worn out, I make the effort to wake up and have brunch with her on my days off. These quiet meals are when we truly connect – when I can talk to her about my week, my thoughts, my struggles and the little joys in between.
Some of the most heart-warming weekends are the ones spent with my nephews, who are two and four. My sister has built her life in Australia and I don’t get to see her children often.
When they’re back in JB, I want to be fully present – to play with them, talk to them, tell them stories and just be a part of their world.

If I had a weekend completely to myself, I’d spend it curled up with a good book or watching a meaningful film. When it comes to movies, I’m drawn to those that leave an impression, make me think or make me feel something long after they end.
At the heart of it, my perfect weekend isn’t about doing something grand. It’s about presence – being with family, revisiting comforting routines, and allowing myself to pause and appreciate the stories unfolding around me. It’s a blend of memory, connection and peace.”
