SINGAPORE - As Valentine's Day approaches, get in the mood with these K-pop and J-pop tunes about the highs and lows of love - from a light-hearted tune about the sweet start of a romance to a passionate duet by real-life K-pop couple Hyuna and Dawn.

While it still features his signature fast-paced raps, it is also a sweet song of longing and promise to stay by a lover's side.

The Japanese three-piece rock band's song is for couples who are no longer be in the heady phase of new love, kicking off with the line: "Are you still angry after the fight yesterday?"

It muses about communication and the lack of it in more established relationships, and is a reminder that love requires effort.

Veteran South Korean veteran hip-hop trio Epik High's heartbreak anthem chronicles that post-breakup period when a song or a scene on television can trigger a flood of memories and tears.

They collaborate with K-pop star Heize, whose floaty feminine vocals balance out the trio's hard-hitting raps.

The blend of hard and soft elements is also apparent as classical strings feature in the background as Tablo, Epik High's frontman, spits out the brutal lines: "I hate this/The fact that the same banal plot lines and lines of dialogue I scoffed at/Are now piercing my heart".

The member of South Korean boy band Astro contributes a track to the soundtrack of school romance series True Beauty, where he is the leading man.

Love So Fine is a light-hearted ode to the excitement of falling in love, which the lyrics describe as akin to "flying in the sky".

Perfect for lovebirds in the honeymoon phase.

The good-looking U-Know - also known as Yunho from the K-pop duo TVXQ - probably does not have many rivals in love in real life.

But in his new single Eeny Meeny, he is a frustrated man who wonders if he will win the affections of the woman he loves. "Are you still debating/Is it him or me," he asks.

This is a song of quiet heartbreak for those who find themselves hurt by love during this season.

South Korean hip-hop artist Gaeko, from the musical group Dynamic Duo, and singer Kwon Jin-ah sing about lovers who regret parting and giving up on each other so quickly.

The duo's vocals pair well and the song manages to avoid sounding like a cliched ballad with refreshing guitar instrumentals.
