Ms Charmaine Hui has posted on social media for the first time after the death of her father Benz Hui. The veteran Hong Kong actor died at age 76 on Oct 28 from multiple organ failure caused by cancer.

Ms Hui, 28, took to Instagram on Nov 4, which would have been his 77th birthday.

“Dad, today is your birthday,” she wrote in Chinese. “The past few days have felt so surreal. May you now be carefree and go wherever you need to go.”

She posted a photo of herself as a child with him. She also uploaded a video clip, in which she could be heard in the background asking if he was starting work soon.

“Which team are you joining today?” she asked in the clip.

“Team B,” he replied, as someone holding a signboard that read “Team B” was shown walking behind him.

Ms Hui wrote in the post: “I’ll just pretend that you’ve gone to work. Team B is ready.”

She expressed her gratitude to family and friends for their love and support, and to the many people she has never met for their condolences.

“Forgive me for not being able to thank each of you individually, but every gesture of concern is remembered in my heart,” she wrote. “All of dad’s social media accounts will be retained, and we’ll continue sharing his moments with everyone, carrying on his spirit of ‘happiness’.”

Hui’s most well-known works include the crime thriller drama series Line Walker (2014 to 2020), where he was lauded for his role as undercover cop-turned-retired crime boss Foon Hei Gor, or Brother Happy in Cantonese.

Ms Hui added in English: “Life will never be the same without you, but I’ll do my best to be strong because of you. I miss you and love you endlessly.”

The actor’s family released his obituary on Oct 31, announcing that his wake will be held on Nov 17, with the funeral taking place on Nov 18.

Hui leaves behind his Singaporean wife Angeli Lung, Ms Hui, son-in-law Shane Sim, a stepson, a stepdaughter-in-law and granddaughter Aurelia.
