HONG KONG – The funeral service for late Hong Kong actor Benz Hui was held on Nov 18, Hong Kong media reported.
It was held at Po Fook Memorial Hall in Tai Wai, Hong Kong, and his casket was then moved to Fu Shan Crematorium for cremation.
The pallbearers were reportedly actors To Yin Gor, Tsang Wai Ming, Mak Cheung Ching, Law Lok Lam, Au Yeung Tsan Wah, Eddie Kwan, Michael Miu and Louis Yuen.
Hui’s Singaporean wife Angeli Lung, daughter Charmaine Hui and Singaporean son-in-law Shane Sim were also present.
Other Hong Kong celebrities who were at the funeral included Hui’s goddaughter, actress Charmaine Sheh, singer George Lam, actress Samantha Ko, TV host Maria Luisa Leitao, actress Mary Hon and actor Raymond Wong.
Earlier on Nov 17, a memorial service was held at Po Fook Memorial Hall for family, friends and fans to pay their final respects.
Although the Hui family had previously requested that relatives and friends make donations instead of sending wreaths, the area outside the funeral hall was still filled with floral tributes.
Among those who sent wreaths were actors Chow Yun Fat, Louis Koo, Sandra Ng, Sean Lau and his wife Amy Kwok, Simon Yam, Adam Cheng, Andy Lau, Miriam Yeung, Jessica Hsuan, Raymond Lam and Eric Tsang.
Hui died in the early hours of Oct 28 due to multiple organ failure caused by cancer. He was 76.
Throughout his remarkable 55-year career, the beloved actor was admired not only for his talent but also for his optimism and wisdom.
In an interview with the media near the wake, Ms Hui spoke about her father’s death, describing it as “sudden and unreal”.
The 28-year-old thanked the public for their support during this difficult time, saying: “I’m really grateful after seeing everyone’s messages. Everyone loves my father so much.”
She said she had promised Hui that she would take care of her mother and the family in his place.
She recalled her father’s dedication to his craft, noting that he insisted on completing the filming for the TV series Police Cadet ’84 (1984) despite the death of his parents and brother-in-law that month.
“His sense of responsibility and many other virtues are something I will carry in my heart forever,” she said.
When asked if she had any regrets upon his death, she choked up and replied: “My father has always supported me in pursuing my dreams. My regret is that I haven’t had enough time to show filial piety to him and hadn’t given him a grandchild.” THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
