SINGAPORE – Highlight are returning to Singapore after almost six years.
The second-generation K-pop boy band – comprising Yoon Du-jun, 34, Yang Yo-seop, 34, Lee Gi-kwang, 34, and Son Dong-woon, 33 – will perform at Singapore Expo on Sept 8, with tickets priced from $148 to $288.
The Singapore leg is the final stop of their Highlight Live 2024 (Lights Go On, Again) tour, which celebrates the quartet’s 15th anniversary. The tour kicked off in Seoul in May and includes stops in Hong Kong, Bangkok, Kaohsiung and Tokyo.
The band performed under the name Beast at Singapore Expo in 2012 and held a fan meet at Changi Airport as Highlight in October 2018.
Originally a six-piece band, the group debuted in 2009 under the name Beast with its EP, Beast Is The B2ST. Jang Hyun-seung left the group in 2016.
The band were rebranded as Highlight in 2017 after they left their label of seven years, Cube Entertainment, in 2016, and launched their new label Around Us Entertainment.
Yong Jun-hyung left the group in 2019 after he was implicated in an illegal sex video scandal involving entertainers such as former BigBang member Seungri and singer Jung Joon-young. Yong was later cleared after an investigation.
Highlight are known for hit songs such as Shock (2010), which peaked at No. 2 on South Korea’s Gaon Music Chart (now known as the Circle Chart). Another hit, Fiction (2011), has more than 37.5 million streams on Spotify, while its official music video on YouTube has more than 133 million views.
The group have received 40 awards and nearly 90 major industry nominations. Prominent wins include Artist of the Year at the 2011 and 2012 Melon Music Awards, Song of the Year for Fiction at the 2011 KBS Song Festival, and Record of the Year at the 2015 Seoul Music Awards.
