HONG KONG – Despite their efforts to make ends meet, Hong Kong singer Steven Cheung and his wife Au Yin Man continue to face financial hardships.

In a recent Instagram update, Ms Au, 33, voiced her frustration and concern over their inability to pay their mounting debts.

“I thought that things would get better by working hard and making changes, but it hasn’t. It feels like life is playing a cruel joke on me,” she wrote.

“I’m out of work, one child after another falls sick, and life hasn’t changed. It’s difficult – no milk powder or food. How am I supposed to pay back anything?”

Ms Au, a long-time fan of Cheung, now 40, married him in 2019. It was controversial at the time, as he announced that he was marrying Ms Au while still in a relationship with Hong Kong model-actress April Leung.

Cheung and Ms Au – who have four sons aged between one and five – have since been making headlines for their tumultuous relationship.

The singer, who was part of the Cantopop duo Boyz, has also struggled to land performance opportunities since the 2019 scandal.

In the past year, he has taken on various jobs, including cable wiring, construction work, and distributing fliers and condoms to support his family of six.

The artiste was seen working at a snack shop in July 2023 and turned to online crowdfunding in March 2024.

Ms Au added in the Instagram update that while they had received help from others in the beginning, everyone was asking for repayment.

She clarified that her inability to do so was not due to unwillingness, but rather because she could not afford to.

“I can’t think of a way out. Of course, if you borrow, you should repay, but I really have nothing left. I have to take care of four kids and can’t leave the house,” she said. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
