TAIPEI – Hong Kong actor Wong He has been diagnosed with kidney failure.
He took to social media on Jan 14 to share two photos of his medical reports, revealing that he suffers from Stage 3B chronic kidney disease (CKD).
According to the United States’ National Kidney Foundation, Stage 3B CKD indicates moderate to severe kidney function loss. Symptoms include fatigue, swelling, loss of appetite and nausea.
Despite his diagnosis, the 57-year-old remains hopeful, adding that his condition is gradually improving.
“From being sentenced to a lifetime of dialysis to being able to self-discharge from the hospital, and from end-stage renal failure to Stage 3B CKD. This is proof that the genes my parents passed down to me are as tough and unyielding as a rock,” said the former TVB star.
Wong sparked health concerns in December when he shared a photo of himself lying in a hospital bed. At the time, the actor did not reveal the nature of his condition.
Many netizens have since left comments, wishing Wong a speedy recovery. Others reminded him to eat healthily.
“People suffering from kidney disease must pay special attention to their diet,” said one fan.
Another added: “Please monitor your blood sugar closely.”
Wong launched his entertainment career in 1992 as a radio host before transitioning to acting with the TVB series Nothing To Declare (1996).
His breakthrough came in 1997, when his performance in the drama Deadly Protection earned him his first Best Actor nomination at the TVB Anniversary Awards.
Wong further solidified his popularity in the film industry with his role as a firefighter in the action drama trilogy Burning Flame (1998 to 2009).
He also starred in other dramas such as A Matter Of Customs (2000), C.I.B. Files (2006) and Fathers And Sons (2007). THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
