Veteran Hong Kong opera singer and actor Law Kar Ying has finally fulfilled a 16-year wish.

The 79-year-old tied the knot with his long-time girlfriend, Hong Kong actress-host Liza Wang, 78, in May 2009. But while they registered their marriage in Las Vegas, United States, they did not take any wedding photos.

The couple recently filmed Hong Kong broadcaster TVB’s travel variety show, Take Liza To The World, which will premiere on Nov 24. They travelled to Bhutan earlier in November.

The producer surprised them by arranging traditional Bhutanese costumes for them to wear for their wedding pictures, with a local monk blessing the couple.

“I think we should take our wedding photos while we are still young and looking good, just to have a memento,” Law quipped in a trailer for the show.

“I had thought about going to South Korea to shoot the photos, but I didn’t expect to come to Bhutan and suddenly... maybe I talked to the production team, so they arranged it secretly.”

Wang and Law are a model couple in the Hong Kong entertainment industry, and their epic love story is well known.

They began dating in 1989, a year after meeting in Hong Kong’s Cantonese opera circles. And they supported each other during their respective battles against cancer in the early 2000s.

“He always asked me when we should take our wedding photos,” Wang, nicknamed Big Sister due to her many years in show business, said on the show.

“In the end, I never expected us to wear traditional Bhutanese attire, receive a blessing from the master and have so many villagers join us in celebration. It was quite an unforgettable experience.”
