Hong Kong actor Brian Wong’s wife Lilian Chan has given birth to their second child, a girl, at the age of 58.
The couple, who tied the knot in 2010, also have a six-year-old daughter, Miracle, nicknamed Faye Faye.
Wong, also 58, and Ms Chan announced the birth via social media on Sept 6. They shared a video of both mother and baby doing well, with an overjoyed Faye Faye carrying her younger sister.
Wong, a former TVB artiste known for his supporting roles, told Hong Kong newspaper Ming Pao Daily News in a report published on Sept 7 that his second daughter was born on Aug 22 and weighed 3.34kg.
“When my wife was 37 weeks pregnant, the doctor said C-section was needed at an appropriate time,” he said. “My younger daughter is a big baby as her elder sister weighed about 2.72kg when she was born.”
Wong remarked that the girls look like carbon copies of each other, adding that Ms Chan had returned home from the hospital for her confinement.
He revealed that his wife is still able to breastfeed at age 58, although the baby’s diet is also supplemented with formula milk.
Wong said Ms Chan’s delivery went smoothly. Faye Faye was conceived naturally, while the second pregnancy was through in-vitro fertilisation and was monitored at Prince of Wales Hospital and CUHK Medical Centre.
“The hospital’s monitoring was rigorous, and her blood pressure and other readings were kept very well,” he said.
“My wife holds the record for the oldest woman to give birth at CUHK Medical Centre. The doctors will conduct research on her case, and I don’t mind. It could help future mothers.”
Wong said the chances of them trying for a third child are slim, adding: “I’m very contented and grateful to have two daughters.”
