LOS ANGELES – Hawkeye actor Jeremy Renner said he broke more than 30 bones and sustained a collapsed lung and pierced liver in a January snow plough accident, disclosing for the first time the full extent of his injuries.
The 52-year-old spoke in an interview with ABC News anchor Diane Sawyer, and clips were released on Wednesday. The interview will air on April 6.
In his accident, Renner was ploughing snow at his Nevada home when the machine began to roll away while he was not in the driver’s seat. The snow plough ran him over as he tried to get back into it.
“I was awake through every moment,” he told Ms Sawyer as he recalled the physical pain he felt.
Renner was trying to save his nephew Alexander Fries from being run over by the snow plough, as the American star said he would risk his life again to save Mr Fries.
“Yeah, I’d do it again. ‘Cause (the snow plough) was going right at my nephew,” Renner said.
Mr Fries also recalled the accident during the interview. “I just perfectly see him in a pool of blood coming from his head,” he told Ms Sawyer. “I ran up to him and I didn’t think he was alive.”
Renner has starred in multiple Marvel projects as well as two Mission: Impossible films (2011 and 2015), Arrival (2016), American Hustle (2013) and 28 Weeks Later (2007).
He was nominated for an Academy Award for best actor for his work in 2008 film The Hurt Locker, and for best supporting actor for his work in 2010 movie The Town.
He is slated to make his in-person return to Hollywood during a red-carpet event and discussion of his docuseries, Rennervations, on April 11. REUTERS
