Grasshopper’s Remus Choy recording new songs after brain surgery

Hong Kong singer Remus Choy, currently recuperating from surgery, is able to go to a studio to record new songs.

This was disclosed by his elder brother Calvin Choy when he attended a charity dinner in Tsim Sha Tsui on Nov 9. The two brothers are part of Cantopop trio Grasshopper with Edmond So, 59, who was also at the event.

Remus Choy, 57, dropped a bombshell in October when he disclosed on social media

that he had gone for an operation to remove a brain tumour.

He added a selfie of himself with a shaved head and a close-up photo of a long surgery scar on his scalp.

Calvin Choy, 59, said on Nov 9 that he learnt of his brother’s illness when he was in the United States. Grasshopper were then on their Re-union concert tour, with Remus Choy missing their two concerts in San Francisco on Sept 20 and 21.

Calvin Choy told Hong Kong media on Nov 9 that it was too late to postpone the two shows. The other concerts in the US, Malaysia and China have since been put on hold.

“Remus needs some time to focus on recovery and we do not know how long it will take,” he said on Nov 9. “We do not want to put pressure on him.”

Calvin Choy hoped their concert tour could be completed by the time they celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2025.

He said Grasshopper were currently preparing for their upcoming new album, with Remus Choy able to take part in the recording sessions.

“He does not want people to worry about him,” Calvin Choy said. “He likes to look good and will meet everyone when he is ready.”
