The rolling out of K-pop superstar G-Dragon’s long-awaited album Ubermensch – his first full studio album in over 10 years – has been a star-studded affair in South Korea.

The 36-year-old leader of boy band BigBang hosted a listening party for the new work on Feb 25, the day of the album’s release, with some of South Korean entertainment’s biggest names on the guest list.

In social media posts about the event, G-Dragon’s BigBang bandmate Taeyang, who is featured on the album’s opening track Home Sweet Home, showed up to support his friend. The pair won cheers from the crowd when they spontaneously danced to their hip-hop duet Good Boy (2014).

The remaining BigBang member, Daesung, did not appear to be in attendance.

G-Dragon’s former labelmates – girl group 2NE1’s Dara and CL – were also present and both posted photos of the party on their respective social media accounts. BigBang and 2NE1 debuted under K-pop agency YG Entertainment, though G-Dragon, Dara and CL have since left the label. Another YG alumnus, singer Se7en, also made an appearance.

Actor Kim Soo-hyun was also spotted at the party. Like G-Dragon, he was born in 1988 and was featured in the rapper-singer’s new variety show Good Day (2025), in a segment where stars born that year hung out and made friends. The programme also showcased fellow 1988 babies such as actor Jung Hae-in and boy band ZE:A member Hwang Kwang-hee, who were also at the party.

Thai idol BamBam, part of K-pop group GOT7, posted photos of himself mingling with Seventeen’s The8 and Red Velvet’s Seulgi at the party on his Instagram Stories.

Ubermensch marks G-Dragon’s first studio album since Coup d’Etat (2013) and first musical release since the 2017 EP Kwon Ji Yong. His real name is Kwon Ji-yong.

Ubermensch is already a success, with all eight tracks charting within the top 20 daily songs on South Korea’s music streamer Melon. It also broke Melon’s record for the most streams for an album by a solo artiste in 24 hours after it logged over 4.2 million streams in a day.

G-Dragon will also kick off a world tour titled Ubermensch in support of the album, beginning with two shows at Goyang Stadium in South Korea. Overseas stops for the tour have yet to be announced.

He will headline the Formula One Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix 2025 concerts alongside British music icon Elton John at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in October.
