Night Always Comes (M18)
110 minutes, Netflix
The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025) actress Vanessa Kirby stars in this gritty thriller as Lynette, a woman who risks everything to secure the house that represents a future for her family.
She has been working multiple jobs to pay off the outstanding loan on the property she, her special needs brother Kenny (Zack Gottsagen) and their recalcitrant mother Doreen (Jennifer Jason Leigh) live in.
On the day that Lynette has to make the down payment, Doreen uses the money instead to splurge on a car.
Faced with the risk of eviction, Lynette has a day to raise enough funds to ensure they have a roof over their heads. Desperate, she returns to the world of crime she long left behind, making one bad decision after another.
Kirby, who also serves as producer, roped in director Benjamin Caron to helm the thriller. The Oscar-nominated English actress had worked with the British film-maker on The Crown (2016 to 2023), the acclaimed TV series about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
Night Always Comes, which was released on Aug 15, currently holds the No. 2 spot on Netflix’s Global English chart with more than 11.3 million views.

Yoona from K-pop girl group Girls’ Generation is pretty and crazy in this South Korean romantic comedy that also stars Ahn Bo-hyun.
Seon-ji (Yoona) is a mild-mannered baker by day, but by night, she transforms into a wild demon. Her secret is kept by her father Jang-soo (Sung Dong-il) and cousin Ara (Joo Hyun-young), who take turns to watch over her when her demonic side manifests.
Unemployed Gil-goo (Ahn), who lives upstairs from the family, is smitten by the pretty Seon-ji, and readily agrees to Jang-soo’s bizarre offer of being Seon-ji’s night guardian.
Expect some hijinks as Yoona tackles dual roles. Romance is also on the cards with the eye-candy pairing of Yoona and Ahn.

Australian actor Chris Hemsworth explored how to live longer in the show’s first season in 2022. The Thor (2011 to 2022) star returns in this second season to confront his fears with a new mission: to learn how to live better.
Filmed across six countries over two years, the three-episode documentary sees Hemsworth testing his limits and facing his fears through a mix of physical, emotional and spiritual trials.
The first episode, Brain Power, sees him joining English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran onstage at his sold-out stadium concert in Bucharest, Romania, in 2024.
The catch? Hemsworth, with his limited skills at drumming, has to conquer his fears as he sets the beat for Sheeran and his band in front of 70,000 concertgoers.
Another episode, Risk, has Hemsworth scaling a 183m-high Alpine dam in the Swiss Alps, learning from experts about how taking risks as adults can lead to a happier, healthier life.
In final episode Pain, he sets out to address his chronic back pain in an immersive journey through South Korea, exploring ancient healing traditions and participating in a brutal training session with South Korean special forces.
