Former professional footballer David Beckham turns 50 on May 2, and the Englishman had an early start on celebrations for his milestone birthday in Miami.

In an Instagram post on April 1, the Beckham patriarch showed off photos of his family and famous friends all dressed up for a lavish party.

He wrote: “So I thought I’d start celebrating slightly early, such a special night in Miami. So lucky to have amazing friends and family to start the 50th celebrations with.”

In one picture, Beckham is dressed in a tuxedo next to his wife, English fashion mogul and Spice Girls member Victoria Beckham, 50, who sported a slinky white slip dress. Another photo showed the Beckham family – the couple alongside their children, 13-year-old daughter Harper, sons Romeo, 22, and Cruz, 20, as well as their respective girlfriends, model and deejay Kim Turnbull and singer Jackie Apostel.

Oldest son Brooklyn, 26, and his wife, billionaire heiress Nicola Peltz, were absent from the party.

According to American entertainment outlet People, the black-tie event was held at Italian restaurant Cipriani Downtown Miami in Florida on March 30. Many famed athletes, including retired American football quarterback Tom Brady, former star basketballer Shaquille O’Neal and Argentine footballer Lionel Messi, attended and are seen in the photos Beckham shared.

The day of the party, Beckham’s former assistant, one-time glamour model Rebecca Loos, doubled down on her claims from 20 years ago, about carrying on a four-month-long affair with the former athlete.

The 47-year-old Dutchwoman, who is now married with two teenage sons, spoke to 60 Minutes Australia in a segment published on March 30.

She said: “I have stuck to the truth. I’ve never exaggerated. I never lied about a single thing.”

She first made the allegations in 2004. Beckham dismissed the claims at the time and called them “ludicrous”.

David and Victoria Beckham, who have been married since 1999, did not respond to the latest interview.

Victoria Beckham also posted about her husband’s birthday bash on Instagram. She wrote: “What a way to begin the first of many birthday celebrations for David Beckham, surrounded by friends and family.”
