2024 Energy Imminent Live In Singapore
Singapore Indoor Stadium
Nov 23
Some two decades after their last concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, Energy’s comeback show at the same venue showed the group have not lost their zeal and drive.
The newly reunited Taiwanese boy band brought back many of their early hits from before their 2009 disbanding, as well as new releases that have re-energised their repertoire since their reassembling at the start of 2024.
For instance, they charged through the recent hit Friday Night, which sparked a viral dance craze after its release in April. In particular, they aced the iconic 16 squat jumps at the close of the catchy number.
Supported by eight backup dancers, they also rocked the angsty Return To The World. This new track, released in May, sampled a 2004 song by Taiwanese rock band Mayday, who played a pivotal role in Energy’s return.
Before a 7,500-strong crowd, Energy announced that they would soon be special guests during Mayday’s concerts at the National Stadium in January.
During Energy’s concert, which lasted almost three hours, each of the group’s five members got his time to shine.
1. Shuwei’s red-carpet moment

Shuwei had intended to walk the red carpet during the 2024 Golden Horse Awards in Taipei that evening, as a drama film he starred in – A Journey In Spring (2023) – was nominated for Best Leading Actor (for Jason King) and Best New Director (for Peng Tzu-hui and Wang Ping-wen).
However, the actor-singer decided to come for Energy’s gig instead. He said: “You guys are more important.”
To make up for missing the awards – the film did not win in either category, eventually – the group brought a piece of red carpet onstage and the 44-year-old sauntered on it proudly.
2. Toro makes it up to fans

Fans who showed up at Energy’s fan event at Our Tampines Hub on Oct 5 would have missed Toro’s autograph.
Midway through that event, the 43-year-old felt unwell and returned to the hotel to rest.
To make it up to fans, the star, who sported his signature dreadlocks, signed his name in the air and “pushed” this autograph to the audience.
During the segment when the band thanked event organisers and partners, Toro also committed to doing jump squats throughout the segment, and completed 30 in all. Clearly, he is feeling better.
3. Milk’s breakdance moves

While the other members locked, popped and shuffled throughout the show, Milk’s dance moves were on the next level.
The 45-year-old held an acrobatic pose mid-air and performed a flare on Unassailable (2003). On Let Go (2002), he also did an 11-second windmill, where he spun on his shoulders and back, followed by a somersault that landed him on his feet.
When not singing, the group’s leader and oldest member was also the most willing to engage the audience. He constantly waved to fans and made a variety of heart-shaped gestures.
4. Edy’s vocal stylistics

The group’s main singer was suffering from a cold during the show, and seemed to deliberately not speak during the banter segments to preserve his voice.
But his vocal quality when singing seemed fine, as the 42-year-old carried most of the ballads with his sonorous pipes.
He led the chorus of More Than Words (2002), and performed ad libs on Someday (2003). His falsetto on Treasure Island (2003) was also light and airy.
5. Kunda’s wit and words
The group’s quietest member is the strong, silent type. But whenever he spoke, his words hit home.
After a fan revealed during a fan interaction segment that she was a former fan of Toro, but now preferred Kunda, the latter comforted his bandmate and said: “At least she liked you in the past.”
Said to be the group’s most good-looking member, the 42-year-old also gave audiences what they wanted and revealed his muscled arms in four of his six outfits.
Despite being a taciturn star, he said towards the show’s end: “We have always had a special bond with Singapore. Many things have happened to us here, and we made many special memories. This is like our second home.”
