LOS ANGELES – It is generally a compliment when a video game is described as “cinematic”, but the reverse – a film taking its cues from a video game – can be problematic.

And so Hollywood is littered with the skeletons of ill-conceived game adaptations that either failed to get off the ground or crash-landed shortly thereafter, often bombing with both general audiences and fans of the games.
