SEOUL – K-pop supergroup BTS members Jimin and Jung Kook will face off at the upcoming Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs), which will take place on Dec 12.
The two bandmates have both received nominations and will be competing against each other as solo acts in the categories of Top Global K-Pop Artist and Top Global K-Pop Song, according to the BBMAs on Nov 25.
In the former category, they are the only two solo acts and will compete against boy bands Enhypen, Stray Kids and Tomorrow X Together.
In the Top Global K-Pop Song category, Jimin’s track Who from his second solo album Muse (2024) has been nominated. Who debuted at No. 14 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, becoming his sixth solo song to enter the chart.
Jung Kook’s singles 3D and Standing Next To You, both from his album Golden (2023), are also vying for Top Global K-Pop Song. Rookie girl group Illit’s viral hit Magnetic (2024) and Le Sserafim’s Perfect Night (2023) round out the category.
Standing Next To You also secured a nomination for Top Selling Song.
Notably, Jung Kook is the most-nominated K-pop artiste at 2024’s BBMAs, with six nominations across five categories.
Golden is nominated for Top K-Pop Album. It was on the Billboard 200 chart for 24 consecutive weeks after its release, setting a record as the longest-charting album by a South Korean soloist. Jung Kook also became the first K-pop soloist nominated in the Top Song Sales Artist category.
Both Jimin and Jung Kook are completing their mandatory military service and are scheduled to be discharged in June 2025.
American country singer Zach Bryan, who is up for 18 awards with 21 entries, is the leading BBMAs act in 2024. American superstar Taylor Swift – the most decorated female artiste in the award’s history – is competing for 16 awards with 17 entries. THE KOREA HERALD/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
