SEOUL – South Korean singer Jennie of K-pop girl group Blackpink is set for a solo comeback.
Her agency, OA Entertainment, announced on Sept 9 that the star had signed with Columbia Records, a major American record label under Sony Music Entertainment.
The 28-year-old, whose full name is Jennie Kim, will be releasing a single in October.
Columbia Records is home to global pop stars such as American singer Beyonce, as well as English music stars Adele and Harry Styles.
Jennie’s upcoming track will be her first since the single You & Me, released in October 2023.
She also released the track, One Of The Girls, the same month, in collaboration with Canadian singer The Weeknd and French-American singer-actress Lily-Rose Depp, her co-stars in the HBO drama The Idol (2023).
The track surpassed one billion streams on Spotify and remained on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart for 20 consecutive weeks, making Jennie the first female South Korean solo artiste to receive a platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America.
Additionally, Jennie achieved a milestone on Feb 29 when the music video for her solo debut single, Solo (2018), surpassed one billion views on YouTube, making her the first K-pop female solo artiste to reach the mark. THE KOREA HERALD/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
