SINGAPORE – All the condolence money for veteran Hong Kong actor Benz Hui will be donated to the Children’s Cancer Foundation, his family said in an obituary released on Oct 31. They also requested his friends and relatives to make donations instead of sending flowers.

The TVB star and Singapore permanent resident

died in the early hours of Oct 28 at age 76

from multiple organ failure caused by cancer.

The funeral will be held on Nov 17 in Tai Wai, Hong Kong, and his body will be cremated the following day. In line with the late actor’s wishes, the funeral will be a simple affair, the obituary added.

By donating to the charity, the family is “hoping to transform grief into care” and continue his “benevolent heart and compassion, and ignite new hope for young lives”.

The obituary described him as “a generous and magnanimous man, known for his philanthropy and widespread goodwill, earning him a stellar reputation and the deep respect of his family and friends”.

“While we, his relatives and friends, are deeply saddened by his passing, we remember his wishes that we cherish the memories of our time together.”

Hui starred in many classic TVB series, including The Final Combat (1989) and Golden Faith (2002). He earned the nickname “Benz” for frequently driving a Mercedes-Benz to work during the early days of his career.

He reduced his acting commitments significantly in recent years and moved to Singapore with his family to enjoy a semi-retired life. His family owns a bungalow in Yishun.

Hui met his Singaporean wife Angeli Lung at a gathering of friends and they married in 1992. Ms Lung gave birth to their daughter Charmaine Hui in 1997, when he was 49.

He had been active on social media in recent years. Besides frequently uploading short videos on Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu, he also posted daily moments with his daughter, with the videos uploaded on her YouTube channel.

One of his last public appearances was during the Mid-Autumn Festival on Oct 6, when he had dinner with his family and friends. He looked relaxed and seemed to be in good spirits in a group photo posted by his daughter on Instagram Stories.
