SINGAPORE – Love Lego? There will be about a million Lego pieces coming to Singapore on Aug 31.
After more than 10 years, the Art Of The Brick exhibition, showcasing American contemporary artist Nathan Sawaya’s sculptures and artworks using only Lego blocks, returns to Singapore. It was staged here for the first time at ArtScience Museum in 2012.
The child-friendly exhibition will be held at Singapore Expo, with launch previews running from Aug 31 to Sept 2 before it officially opens on Sept 3. Ticket prices range from $12.90 to $17.90 and sales begin on Aug 8 at 4pm. Interested visitors can join a wait-list prior to the sale at theartofthebrickexpo.com/singapore.
Expect to see some 150 artworks by Sawaya, who is known for using Lego as his medium to make large-scale installations and sculptures as well as life-like portraits.
For the Singapore show, Sawaya’s original sculptures will be displayed alongside his recreations and reimagined versions of some of the world’s most famous artistic masterpieces, including Michelangelo’s David, Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night and Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.
Other highlights include a 6m-long T-Rex skeleton, an interactive Lego creation area and an innovative Lego multimedia collection produced together with Australia-born photographer Dean West.
Art Of The Brick, which premiered in 2007 in the United States, has travelled to 100 cities in 24 countries abroad since its debut. It has been visited by over seven million people.
