PARIS – American actress Angelina Jolie revealed her double mastectomy scars in a photo shoot for Time France, in the magazine’s first French edition that launched this week.

“I share these scars with many women I love. And I’m always moved when I see other women sharing theirs,” the Hollywood star, known for her humanitarian work, told the magazine.

The photos, taken by Paris-based photographer Nathaniel Goldberg, were featured on the front page.

Jolie, 50, announced in 2013 that she had undergone a double mastectomy, followed by a double oophorectomy in 2015, due to her genetic predisposition to cancer.

The Oscar-winning actress’ decision to make the news public encouraged other women to undergo cancer screenings.

“Access to screening and care should not depend on financial resources or place of residence,” she told Time France.

Jolie’s latest starring role is in the film Coutures, by French film-maker Alice Winocour, which will hit French cinemas on Feb 18. The movie’s story echoes Jolie’s experience with cancer.

Time France’s debut edition also includes an interview with US ambassador to France Charles Kushner, a report from Ukraine’s Donbas region and an investigation into the art trafficking underworld, according to its table of contents.

The American magazine’s first international edition has been acquired by entrepreneur Dominique Busso’s 360BusinessMedia group, which previously launched Forbes France. AFP
