SINGAPORE – Singaporean Mandopop queen Stefanie Sun’s recent concerts at the Singapore Indoor Stadium – which kick-started her first world tour in a decade, titled Aut Nihilo – was star-studded, with singer JJ Lin appearing on stage on the final night of a four-night gig to surprise Sun.
But neither was the audience lacking in star power. Local celebs showed up in droves to support the 46-year-old.
On Instagram, Ah Jies Zoe Tay and Fann Wong posted photos of themselves with Sun, whose concerts were on April 5, 6, 12 and 13.
Tay, 57, sported an asymmetrical black suit and pixie cut to attend the last show.
In her April 15 post, the actress posted photos of herself with Sun backstage and enjoying the concert. She joked: “The highly anticipated return of an ‘obscure’ singer in an entertaining concert filled with heart and personality.”
Sun – among the most successful music exports from Singapore – was once called “obscure” by a Chinese netizen who discovered her music and recommended her to others.
Tay then tagged Sun and said: “Witnessing your live vocals once more and you still sound exactly as you do on a CD.”
Tay and actress Chantalle Ng, 29, who attended the show the same night, were singled out by Sun during the concert.
Actress Fann Wong also posted a picture with Sun on April 15. The 54-year-old had attended the April 6 show. In her post, she referenced Sun’s song Encounter (2003) and the Chinese title of Sun’s tour, After Sunset, writing: “Encountering you after the sunset – the rhythm in my DNA is moving.”
Paris-based Singaporean actress-host Sharon Au was back home to catch the show on both April 12 and 13, alongside comedian-actor Mark Lee, Malaysian actress Yeo Yann Yann and The Freshman pop duo comprising Chen Diya and Carrie Yeo.
Au, 49, dedicated an emotional post to the concerts and wrote: “Thank you for Aut Nihilo. It wasn’t just a performance – it was a homecoming.
“A return not just to your voice, but to pieces of ourselves we’d forgotten. I’m still finding the words for how deeply it moved me.”
In the comments, Sun replied: “Dear Sharon, thank you for this moving message, for catching it twice and then penning your thoughts. The concert was made meaningful with all these connections and I hope it’s been an inspiring and fun two nights.”
Fellow home-grown diva Kit Chan caught the show on the opening night.
The 52-year-old praised Sun for her more mature performance, writing: “She was in top form, and I must say, being older really becomes her. There was a confidence and grounding that wasn’t there before, and I enjoyed her performance and her unique charms.”
