SEOUL – South Korean actress Kim Min-hee is expecting a child with auteur Hong Sang-soo, according to South Korean media reports on Jan 17.

Entertainment outlet Dispatch revealed that Kim is expected to give birth in the first half of 2025. The star of Park Chan-wook’s 2016 film The Handmaiden learnt of her pregnancy in mid-2024 and is said to be some six months along.

Kim, 42, and Hong, 64, met while working on the film Right Now, Wrong Then (2015), which was directed by Hong and starred Kim as the female lead.

They made headlines in 2016 when news broke that they were having an affair. They publicly confirmed their romance in 2017.

Hong and his wife, whom he met while studying in the United States, tied the knot in 1985. The couple have a daughter. The director filed for divorce in 2016, but the court rejected the case in 2019, stating: “Our legal precedent does not allow the party at fault to seek divorce.”

Kim has starred in only Hong’s works since the scandal. She has acted in 12 of his films, such as Hotel By The River (2018), The Woman Who Ran (2020) and In Our Day (2023).
