SINGAPORE – Local actress Lin Meijiao recalled her bedtime reading ritual with her daughter, as actress Chantalle Ng turned 29 on June 17.
“Chantalle loved listening to stories when she was young,” Lin, 60, wrote in Chinese on social media.
“Before going to bed, I would read stories to her when I had the time. We would immerse ourselves in the stories every night.”
The veteran actress said her daughter’s love for reading remained unchanged when she grew up.
“I wanted to let her relive what she loved most in her childhood for her birthday this year,” Lin wrote. “We need some innocence and some relaxing moments for balance and to relax our mind while we’re busy working.”
Lin used the hashtags #HappyBirthday, #StoryBook and #ComeHomeWhenYouAreTired.
Ng, best known for her role as the bubbly Vietnamese bride in the hit drama My Star Bride (2021), posted past and present photos on Instagram to mark her birthday.
“Happy birthday to me yay,” she wrote. “Surrounded by so much love, thank you, everyone who loves me.”
She is currently filming the blockbuster drama Emerald Hill, a spin-off of the popular television series The Little Nyonya (2008 to 2009).
She posted photos of herself making funny faces when she was a child, and a photo of herself celebrating her birthday with her co-stars.
The joyous occasion followed a weekend of grief for Ng and Lin.
The pair posted on social media on June 15 and 16 respectively that their 17-year-old pet dog, a miniature poodle named Dasher, had died.
