American actor Chris Evans and his wife Alba Baptista have welcomed their first child. Their daughter, Alma Grace Baptista Evans, was born on Oct 24 in Massachusetts, the US.
According to US entertainment news outlets, the couple had kept the pregnancy and birth private. Celebrity site TMZ first reported the news, citing birth records from the state.
An insider told People magazine that the 44-year-old star of the Avengers (2012 to present) and Captain America (2011 to 2016) superhero movies and the 28-year-old Portuguese actress are “enjoying their privacy in these special first few days as a family”.
Alma means “soul” in Baptista’s native language. It was likely chosen because it resembles her first name, Alba, which means “dawn”.
Speculation about the pregnancy began in June 2025 when Baptista’s father, Luiz Baptista, replied to a Father’s Day tribute posted on a fan social media account that tagged the couple’s dads.
“Your turn is coming,” said Mr Baptista, addressing Evans. The comment sparked rumours, but the couple never confirmed them.
The couple married in September 2023 in a private ceremony in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The wedding was attended by Evans’ Marvel Cinematic Universe co-stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth and Jeremy Renner.
Baptista is known outside Portugal for her starring role as Ava Silva, the title character in the Netflix fantasy series Warrior Nun (2020 to 2022).
They met in Europe and kept their relationship private before confirming it publicly in 2022.
Evans had previously said he was looking forward to being a father, saying that being called “dad” would be exciting.
In an interview with People in 2023, shortly after his marriage, he said that he came from a tight-knit family and was eager to pass on a special Evans holiday tradition to his future children. He has two sisters and one brother.
“We would all sleep in the same room on Christmas Eve, on the floor, pick a Christmas movie and try to force yourself to sleep,” he said.
“That’s what I hope – that my kids will enjoy each other’s company as much as me and my siblings did.”
