SINGAPORE – Record-breaking, chart-topping K-pop phenomenon

Stray Kids are set to take over the National Stadium on Sept 28,

when their Dominate world tour storms into town.

Touted by Rolling Stone UK magazine as “arguably the biggest band in the world right now”, the South Korean boy band are graduating to a bigger stage after they sold out the Singapore Indoor Stadium in 2023 during their Maniac world tour.

This makes them the third K-pop act to hold a gig at the National Stadium, after BTS in 2019 and Blackpink in 2023.

Stray Kids, formed by JYP Entertainment through the 2017 reality show of the same name, got their moniker from their determination to break away from traditions, formalities and existing systems.

The octet’s current tour is in support of the EP Ate, which was released in July and has fiery tracks such as Mountains and Jjam. It kicked off in Seoul on Aug 24, and will make its first overseas stop in Singapore before moving on to other cities, such as Melbourne, Kaohsiung and Tokyo.

Judging from news reports and videos from the four concerts at Seoul’s KSPO Dome, Stray Kids’ upcoming show will be the first time each member performs a solo number in the Lion City.

Here is how each Gen Zer is expected to dominate the stage.

1. Hold My Hand – Han

The charming Han is expected to perform the rock number Hold My Hand, which is about wanting to make a loved one happy.

The first solo performance will likely be Han’s, who turned 24 on Sept 14. In a striped black-and-white outfit, the former Def Dance Skool trainee will turn the energy up with rock number Hold My Hand. Be prepared for a spectacular confetti explosion as he belts the second chorus.

Han used to live and study in Malaysia, and is known for his charming but silly personality. Fun fact: He can also do an adorable voice impression of the Japanese anime character Doraemon.

2. Youth – Lee Know

The boyish Lee Know is expected to perform the upbeat number Youth, about living one’s best life with a lifetime of possibilities ahead.

Celebrate the unbridled freedom and endless energy of being young in this upbeat song by the boyish Lee Know. In a blue oversized pullover, loose blue jeans and sneakers, the 25-year-old looks set to unleash his inner child for the performance.

Stray Kids’ second-oldest member will surely put a spring in your step with his spins and jumps. An only child, he was also formerly a backup dancer for BTS, and has a habit of cracking his fingers.

3. As We Are – Seungmin

Clean-cut Seungmin is expected to perform the tender ballad As We Are, perched on one edge of the stage while strumming a guitar.

Trust the clean-cut Seungmin to choose this tender ballad. It starts with the 24-year-old pensively perched on one edge of the stage strumming a guitar, but the scene soon swells with emotion as he stands up, the orange glow of dawn behind him.

The Chungdam High School graduate is said to be the cleanest member, as he brushes his teeth six times a day. The avid sports lover also once dreamed of being a professional baseball player.

4. So Good – Hyunjin

Hyunjin is expected to turn up the heat with the sexy number So Good.

As the lights dim and smoke swirls around, expect things to get sexy with Hyunjin’s smooth moves and hip swings. In a sleeveless black top, the 24-year-old will turn up the heat with the catchy “life is so good” refrain. Also on the cards is a sultry dance solo, where his swaying shoulders and flashy footwork take centre stage.

Although born in South Korea, Hyunjin attended kindergarten in Las Vegas and can speak basic English. The only child is apparently the hardest to wake in the morning.

5. Railway – Bang Chan

Leader Bang Chan is expected to perform the English R&B song Railway, sitting on a chair atop a mountain of lifeless “casualties”.

When red lights bathe the stage, you know danger is nearby. This English R&B song compares a relationship to a one-way train ride, where risks abound and there is no turning back. In a dark suit, Stray Kids’ leader and oldest member oozes an alluring mystery, sitting on a chair atop a mountain of lifeless “casualties”.

The confident and suave 26-year-old was born in South Korea, but moved to Australia when he was very young and speaks fluent English. He is also multi-talented – he can play the guitar and piano, and took ballet and modern dance classes in high school.

6. Hallucination – I.N

Youngest member I.N is expected to perform the dreamy song Hallucination in one of the night’s most daring outfits.

PHOTO: JYP ENTERTAINMENT

The lights turn a hazy purple on the dreamy Hallucination, which is about being obsessed with an enigmatic lover. Stray Kids’ youngest member will don one of the night’s most daring outfits – a shirt with a spiderweb design, baring part of his waist and stomach – and bust out smooth, sensual moves.

The 23-year-old’s current grown-up image is a departure from when he was known for being the baby of the group and his megawatt smile.

7. Unfair – Felix

Lanky cool cat Felix is expected to sing the number Unfair while being lowered from the ceiling, surrounded by glittering dust.

A magical entrance awaits as a seated Felix is lowered from the ceiling, surrounded by glittering dust, dressed in a wool-collared leather jacket and pants.

The confessional rock number from the lanky cool cat seems inspired by the 1991 Disney animated movie Beauty And The Beast, as he delivers a line from the film’s title song – “Tale as old as time/song as old as rhyme” – in a pained, emo style.

Born in Australia, the 24-year-old is an expert dancer and has a black belt in taekwondo.

8. Ultra – Changbin

Fast-rapping Changbin is expected to rip through the lyrics of the machismo-oozing number Ultra.

PHOTO: JYP ENTERTAINMENT

Ready to start jumping? The trap-influenced electronic dance music number Ultra is not for the faint-hearted. All those bicep days at the gym will pay off for Changbin as he rips through the lyrics “put ‘em up, put ‘em up” in this skin-tight top. The amped-up, machismo-oozing tune can easily be a theme song for the recent Hyrox fitness race, especially when paired with those chest pops and fist pumps.

Given that the 25-year-old is good at ball sports and is known for his fast rapping, pulling off this energetic number is a walk in the park.
