SINGAPORE – My present to myself when I graduated from university at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic was an exclusive edition of The Invisible Life Of Addie LaRue (2020) by V.E. Schwab. It was the first special-edition book I bought and such special editions have become one of the most expensive aspects of my book-buying habits.

Later, I also bought an exclusive edition of Schwab’s A Darker Shade Of Magic (2015). Both were from monthly book subscription boxes, the former from Canadian company Owlcrate and the latter from UK company Illumicrate.
