SINGAPORE – Can a library have too few books and too much space? Wandering around the roomy sprawl that is the Punggol Regional Library recently, my first thought was – there could be more shelves and more books. 

Perhaps it is churlish of me to complain about too much space at the library. It says something about Singapore that public libraries are regularly upgraded and swanky new town hubs incorporate library spaces as a matter of course. Contrast this to the United States, where President Donald Trump has cut funding to the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
