LONDON – Tash Aw wants to reinvent the historical epic.
It had always been the Malaysian author’s ambition to write a “big family epic” in the vein of Rohinton Mistry and Vikram Seth, India-born writers he had admired growing up. Yet, the idea of writing an 800-page novel did not appeal to him.
