No performance of Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony can fail to be a big event, so unashamedly enormous is the structure of the work and so cosmically lofty its aspirations. It takes as its subject nothing less than the cycle of life, death and rebirth, with a generous helping of judgment and redemption thrown in for good measure.
