Who: Azizah Zakaria, who is in her 40s, is the deputy secretary of the Malay Language Council. It is organising the annual conference for the Majlis Sastera Asia Tenggara, also known as Mastera, from Sept 9 to 12. The regional language organisation focuses on the development of Malay and Indonesian language and literature in South-east Asia. Singapore will host the four-day event, which will be attended by representatives from Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia. 

The council, established in 1981, promotes and celebrates the beauty of Malay language and culture. Among the key events it organises is Bulan Bahasa (Malay Language Month), which started in 1988. Bulan Bahasa will be on from Aug 16 to Oct 12 in 2025.
