In My BFF Is An Alien, Abriana Yeo, 13, discovered that her best friend Octavia Wu was a refugee from another planet. Octavia has since survived intergalactic war and been reunited with Abriana at Bukit Timah Secondary Girls' School, but a viral video of an encounter between them and a wild boar may expose Octavia's secret alien identity.

"Abriana was really based on the girl I was when I was 13, having started secondary school unathletic and quite friendless," says Teo, 42, who is interested in examining bullying, social media use and gender stereotypes.
