SINGAPORE – One expects the title of New York Times No. 1 best-selling author to come with a big pay cheque, but for Xiran Jay Zhao, YouTube was what paid the bills.
Over a Zoom call from Vancouver, Zhao says: “Technically, I’m not a full-time author because I get monthly payments from YouTube. For all of 2021, my debut year, YouTube made me more money than my book.”
