SINGAPORE – Singaporean author Kyla Zhao, 26, has channelled her experiences as a competitive chess player into her new book May The Best Player Win, targeted at readers between eight and 12.
“I played competitively from primary school until I was about to enter junior college, then I decided to drop out,” Zhao says over a Zoom call from her apartment in Northern California.
