End Of The World And Hard-Boiled Wonderland, a star-studded stage adaptation of literary superstar Haruki Murakami’s 1985 novel, is making a stop at Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay from April 3 to 5.

SINGAPORE – Japanese actor Tatsuya Fujiwara, best known for the Death Note (2006 to 2016) and Kaiji (2009 to 2020) movies, is headlining End Of The World And Hard-Boiled Wonderland, a star-studded stage adaptation of literary superstar Haruki Murakami’s Hard-Boiled Wonderland And The End Of The World. 

Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay is presenting the show from April 3 to 5, 2026. Early-bird tickets to the work, which premieres at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre Playhouse in January 2026, are on sale They are priced from $68 to $158 and available from Sistic.

Two parallel storylines unfold in this adaptation of the Japanese author’s 1985 novel.

Fujiwara, 43, plays data specialist Watashi in the cyberpunk world of Hard-Boiled Wonderland. His life spirals out of control when he meets Doctor (played by veteran actor Narushi Ikeda) and his granddaughter (Miu Tomita, known for her role in the 2020 series Gourmet Detective Goro Akechi). 

In The End Of The World, protagonist Boku (played by actors Kiita Komagine and Ryunosuke Shimamura) is separated from his shadow when he arrives at a walled city. Well-known ballet dancer Shuntaro Miyao plays the Shadow.

The play is adapted by Japanese scriptwriter Ako Takahashi and helmed by French choreographer and director Philippe Decoufle, who is also choreographing

Singapore is the only South-east Asian stop for the work, which will be performed in Japanese with English surtitles. It will also tour China, France and Britain.
