Photographer Russel Wong spent 13 years documenting the secretive world of the geiko in Kyoto.

It takes four people, men included, to dress a geiko - or geisha in the Kansai dialect of Osaka - in her formal wear. Only men have the strength to really tighten the obi belt.
"It's like watching an empress get dressed," marvels Singaporean photographer Russel Wong.
