NEW YORK – In the United States, nearly half of adults have high blood pressure. Known as a silent killer, hypertension can contribute to heart attack, stroke and heart failure without causing symptoms.

Where hypertension was once thought to affect mostly older people, research now shows that an increasing share of people aged 35 to 64 are dying of heart disease related to it.
