Just as the recent debate about university attire is simmering down, the topic of school uniforms suddenly surfaces (Phase out uniforms in schools, by Lam Yu Han; Feb 7).
Students should be proud of their uniforms, instead of worrying about "divides caused by stereotypes tied to the school" they are from.
This is also part of "taking pride in their appearance, and presenting themselves well".
University students have been arguing vehemently that having uniforms or a dress code would suffocate their individuality and innovation, as well as reflect a blind adherence to rules.
But most - whether they end up as bankers, chefs, doctors, lawyers or even salesmen - will eventually be acquainted with strict dress codes.
The irony, it seems, is that university students who treat their lecture halls no differently from their bedrooms dress to the nines at their graduation ceremonies and parties.
My point is that until and unless they achieve the accomplishments of a Mark Zuckerberg or a Steve Jobs, the argument about individuality and innovation being stifled will ring hollow.
