I agree with Mrs Padmini Kesavapany ("Grading system for maid agencies can boost transparency"; March 17).

My personal experience dovetails particularly with her point that maids are frequently recruited by agencies without being given proper information or any understanding of the job specifications.

They are also not briefed about the implications of signing a two-year contract.

It seems to me that sometimes, they are even led to believe that this job opportunity is akin to a casual, long-term holiday here.

It is heartening to know that the Ministry of Manpower is reviewing its policy on maid agencies because it is currently weighed against the employer, and some parity is much needed.
