Pedestrians are becoming road hazards

When it comes to pedestrian safety, drivers have their side of the story too (Educate drivers on pedestrians' right of way; March 30, and Driving lessons, tests emphasise pedestrian safety; April 4).

Many have had near-misses with pedestrians who suddenly walked onto a crossing without giving any prior indication that they intended to cross.

Then there are the children, youth and even adults who blindly jaywalk while talking on their mobile phones or reading their text messages.

Just as drivers are severely dealt with when they use their mobile phones while driving, pedestrians using their mobile phones while walking onto or crossing roads should be severely fined.
